Cambodia needs some 253,000 tons of meat to supply the people’s need
in 2011, H.E. Chan Sarun, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and
Fisheries told a Consultation Workshop on Draft Law of Animal Health and Production held here on May 25.
The Cambodian people’s need in meat sees an increase of 2.20 percent
annually, from 204,000 tons in 2001 to 248,000 tons in 2010, he said.
He added that the increase of domestic animal production, which
shares 6.10 percent of GDP, will contribute an important part in the
national economy.
H.E. Chan Sarun also acknowledged that small, medium, and large
animal production industries have been playing a major role in supplying
the increasing demand of the domestic market, but they are still in the
beginning step, so private sector should be encouraged to actively join
in this sector.
