Tomato Café

[LIFT Magazine]

While globalisation continues to spur rapid development in the Kingdom, Cambodians are becoming increasingly likely to adopt foreign styles. Many have changed the way they dress, eat and even think. Consequently, there are many foreign investments continuing to arrive in town, including Western-style fashion shops and restaurants.

Along the busy Tep Pond Blvd, where swarms of people pass by, a new Western café opened just last week. Tomato Café, owned by a Cambodian-New Zealander’s family and relatives, is open every day from the early morning until 9pm.

The odd name for the café was eplained by owner Keo Rameaux, 24, also known as Ramo. He said the name originated because he wanted his café to encourage people to eat healthier. Ramo also mentioned that he wants to inspire people to love and take care of the environment.

“Here we serve a wide range of menu items, including fruit juices. We keep finding more special recipes by mixing the fruits and vegetables together. For instance, carrot juice is good for the eyes, and each fruit or vegetable has its own vitamin. Anyone who comes here will enjoy themselves,” Ramo claimed.

The café’s interior design was planned nearly a year before its opening by Ramo himself. He aso brings to the Kingdom two years of prior experience in running the café business.

Internet service is also available for those looking to relax or work, thereby drawing customers both young and old. Comfortable parking spots have also been prepared, although the shop is located right next to the street.

“You can surf the internet with an acceptable speed, see the views outside, listen to a little music, or gather with others for group study. It is also a nice place for a family to spend a meal together,” Ramo said.

I decided to have a cup of cappuccino and, lying down while using internet at Tomato Café, I discovered that the menu is actually quite good, not to mention the excellent service.

If you don’t know where to go, then may I suggest trying Tomato Café. You won’t regret it!
