Cambodia exports 136,000 tons of milled rice in 10 months

PHNOM PENH, Nov. 21 -- Cambodia exported 136,000 tons of milled rice in the first ten months of this year, an increase of 7 percent over the same period last year, according to the statistics from the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.

Although the export quantity rose slightly, the revenue went up sharply to about 78 million U.S. dollars, up 200 percent from 26 million U.S. dollars in the same period last year.

Kong Putheara, director of the Commerce Ministry's Statistics Department, said most of Cambodian milled rice has been exported to Europe, the United States, China, South Korea and Japan.

"As floods have partly damaged rice paddies in some rice producing countries this year, I believe that the prices of rice next year will be much better than those of this year," he said.

Cambodia is expected to export about 200,000 tons of milled rice in 2011.
