Cambodia Enjoys Food Production Surplus

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Cambodia’s food surplus is the success of the country, especially in agricultural sectors.

Speaking at the annual meeting of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries yesterday, the premier said the development of agriculture is the country’s priority and it would generate the country’s economic growth and national productivity and improve the people’s living conditions.

H.E. Chan Sarun, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said Cambodia expects to achieve the rice export target to 1 million tons by 2015 as the rice production in the country has gradually increased from year to year.

According to the minister, Cambodia’s total rice production in 2009-2010 was 8.25 million tons of paddy, of which over 2.5 million tons of surplus husked rice.
