[PHNOM PENH POST]
Cambodian athletes were given yet further encouragement to achieve
success at next month’s 26th SEA Games in Indonesia after local phone
operator Smart Mobile signed an agreement with the National Olympic
Committee of Cambodia on Tuesday to donate US$3,000 to the departing
delegation. According to NOCC General Secretary Vath Chamroeun, Smart
Mobile would also offer substantial phone credit prizes to SEA Games
medalists, with a gold medal winner receiving a $50 voucher every month
for a whole year, $20 per month for a silver medal and $10 for a
bronze. NOCC President Thong Khon lauded the latest contribution to
Cambodian sport, which saw Smart Mobile join NagaWorld and Tiger beer
as main sponsors of the Indonesia-bound teams. Any Cambodian athlete
capturing a gold medal should expect to receive around US$12,000 each
through cash bonuses awarded by the government as well as corporate
benefactors.
