Tourists Visit Cambodia through Thai-Cambodia Border Gate Increases

The number of foreign tourists visiting Cambodia through the Thai-Cambodian Border Gate of Poipet is increasing gradually after the situation on the Thai- Cambodian border return to normal after the formation of the Thai new government, according to an official of the immigration police.
From 1,400 to 1,500 tourists a day visited Cambodia through the border gate of Poipet, said Sao Bunrith, chief of the immigration police stationed at the border gate, said recently

In the past there are about 1,100 foreign tourists a day, he said.

The increasing number of tourists is due to the general election held in Thailand and the Pheu Thai Party won the election, he said.

Mr. Chung Lem, director of Banteay Meanchey Tourism Department said while the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border is getting better, the flock of foreign tourists to visit Cambodia, including Thai people, increases and the local authority is helping them by facilitate the documentation and transportation.

In the first semester of the year, Cambodia attracted 1.38 million of foreign visitor, while at the same period last year there were only 1.22 million.

This year Cambodia hopes to attract 2.7 million of foreign visitors and generate income around US$1.9 billion.
