Thaicom PCL, Thailand's sole satellite operator, is considering pulling out of the mobile phone businesses in Laos and Cambodia because of bleak business prospects and cut-throat competition, its newly appointed CEO Suphajee Suthumpun said Thursday.
"We are pondering many alternatives, including pulling out of there. The decision on this matter should be made soon," she said and added that "we may get rid of them, keep one of them, or keep both; it's all possible."
Weak performance of units Lao Telecommunications Co. and Cambodia's Mfone Co. has been dragging on earnings at Thaicom, whose satellite business performance has been steadily improving.
