[PHNOM PENH POST]
CAMBODIA is set to host its first garment and trade sector fair, in an
effort to boost regional trade within the industry, Garment
Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC) Secretary General Ken Loo
said.
Cambodia International Textile & Garment Industry
Exhibition, co-organised by the GMAC and Taiwanese companies, will run
from August 25 to 28.
“We will invite all garment factories
[representatives] to view the technology and machinery on show at the
expo, which is very important to our garment industry,” he said.
The exhibition will also showcase high-tech machinery for the shoe manufacturing industry, he added.
The
event, set to comprise some 200 booths, will be attended largely by
Taiwanese companies, though around 20 Vietnamese firms are also
expected, according to the commercial counsellor at Phnom Penh’s
Vietnamese embassy Vu Thinh Cuong.
“It’s the first time Cambodia
has hosted such an event and I think it wants to seek out further
business partnerships, as raw garment materials account for around 70
percent of the Kingdom’s export.”
The recent tax incentives implemented by the EU market has been part of the sector's recent strong growth, he said.
Ministry
of Commerce Trade Promotion Department Deputy Director Sok Darith also
highlighted the significance of the expo in boosting trade in the
garment sector.
“This event is going to be very important to our garment industry.”
