Cambodian Premier Welcomes Digital Technology in Cambodia’s Telecommunication

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen welcomed a project for transforming Analog into Digital technology in Cambodia’s telecommunication.

While meeting with the Cambodian premier on June 23, Mr. Hamadoun I. Touré, general secretary of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) pledged to do his best to do cooperation with Cambodia, according to Mr. Ieng Sophalet, assistant to Cambodia’s premier, who was quoted as saying after the meeting.

He told the Cambodian premier of a talk between him and H.E. So Khun, minister of Posts and Telecommunication, during which, he said, the discussion focused on the transformation of Analog into Digital technology providing many benefits, such as saving energy up to 40 % and reducing environmental pollution.

The project will be completed in 2015, he said.

He also appreciated the national development in Cambodia under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

In the meantime, he invited the Cambodian prime minister to attend ITU exhibition and conference to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in October.

In reply, the Cambodian premier thanked ITU for the cooperation, aiming at heightening the living standards of Cambodian people and wished Digital technology to reach the rural areas in the country to enable the users to get the benefit from the technology.

He also asked ITU with an experience for IT to be considered in assisting in IT field in the country.

For the invitation to participating in ITU exhibition and conference, he said he would consider looking for his own specific program beforehand to accept.
