BEELINE’S parent company VimpelCom claimed a 54-percent jump
year-over-year in active subscriptions for Cambodia in its first quarter
results released yesterday.
The Amsterdam-based telecom firm
also reported that revenues soared 73 percent compared to the same
period in 2010, while quarter-on-quarter subscriber numbers and revenues
increased 16 percent and 11 percent, respectively. However, the firm
did not release seperate figure for subscribers or revenues in the
Kingdom.
“The development of our business in Cambodia continues to evolve rapidly,” VimpelCom said.
“Network
quality, effective marketing campaigns and a pro-active approach to
distribution helped further improve our market position and
substantially improve our cash flow.”
Net operating mobile
revenues for the Southeast Asia region – which includes Cambodia, Laos
and Vietnam – reached US$10 million for the quarter, up 127 percent from
the year-ago period. The firm said its Southeast Asian presence was
bolstered by recent moves in Laos and Vietnam, including purchasing a
majority stake in Millicom Lao Company and increased financing of its
Vietnam operations.
Meanwhile, Hello’s parent Axiata also
reported quarterly earnings this week. The Malaysia-listed company said
Hello saw revenue growth from higher prepaid usage and devices sales,
according to a company statement on Tuesday.
The Cambodian mobile operator’s revenues advanced 6 percent and subscriptions up 19 percent from the fourth quarter 2010.
