Beeline buzzes a subscriber boost

[PHNOM PENH POST]

BEELINE’S parent company VimpelCom claimed a 54-percent jump year-over-year in active subscriptions for Cambodia in its first quarter results released yesterday.

The Amsterdam-based telecom firm also reported that revenues soared 73 percent compared to the same period in 2010, while quarter-on-quarter subscriber numbers and revenues increased 16 percent and 11 percent, respectively.  However, the firm did not release seperate figure for subscribers or revenues in the Kingdom.

“The development of our business in Cambodia continues to evolve rapidly,” VimpelCom said.

“Network quality, effective marketing campaigns and a pro-active approach to distribution helped further improve our market position and substantially improve our cash flow.”

Net operating mobile revenues for the Southeast Asia region – which includes Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam – reached US$10 million for the quarter, up 127 percent from the year-ago period. The firm said its Southeast Asian presence was bolstered by recent moves in Laos and Vietnam, including purchasing a majority stake in Millicom Lao Company and increased financing of its Vietnam operations.

Meanwhile, Hello’s parent Axiata also reported quarterly earnings this week. The Malaysia-listed company said Hello saw revenue growth from higher prepaid usage and devices sales, according to a company statement on Tuesday.

The Cambodian mobile operator’s revenues advanced 6 percent and subscriptions up 19 percent from the fourth quarter 2010.
