Cambodia Responds to World’s Increasing Demand for Rubber

[AKP]

Cambodia’s rubber plantation is expanding in recent years as world’s demand for the product is high, said the meeting report of Cambodia’s 2010-2011 agriculture assessment and 2011-2012 planning.

In 2010 alone, land surface for rubber plantation in Cambodia increased to 181,000 hectares or almost 40 percent compared to 2009.

Across the world, natural rubber supply available in 2010 was about 10 million tons while the demand was 10.18 million tons. The increasing demand for rubber in the world has pushed the price of the project to US$4,000 per ton.

Given the profitable business of rubber, the Royal Government of Cambodia is expanding its rubber plantation.
